Stuff the Bus goes down in the books
September 28, 2015
Thank you to all who participated in our School Supply Drive and Stuff the Bus project!
Pencils and Rulers and Crayons, Oh my. Thanks for Helping to Keep Kids Learning!
Many children go to school without the supplies they need to enter the classroom ready to learn. To help, local workplaces hosted on-site school supply drives with employees and their families in August and September.
Then, on Friday, September 18, United Way volunteers from People's United Bank, Pratt & Whitney and the Willis Group participated in "Stuff the Bus" for United Way Year of Caring, organizing and delivering collected supplies to seven Hartford Community Schools. Throughout the year, children will receive the supplies so they can stay on track and perform better in school.
Many thanks to the following workplaces for donating school supplies:
- 3D Asset Management
- Acadia Insurance
- American Nuclear Insurers
- Cummins Powers
- Murtha Cullina
- People's United Bank
- Pratt & Whitney
- Schuster Driscoll, LLC
- Slalom Consulting
- Stanley Black & Decker
- The Hartford Financial Services Group
- United Technologies Research Center
- UPS Capital Business Credit
- UTC Aerospace Systems
- Willis Group
Because of their efforts, more than 700 students in Hartford will receive school supplies throughout the year to help them stay on track and perform better in school. Also, a special shout out and thanks to DATTCO for donating a bus for the event and distribution to the schools.
School supply drives are just one way United Way, our partners and generous donors help children learn to read, improve academic achievement and develop the skills they need to become successful adults.
Last year, through programs and initiatives supported by contributions to our United Way, 4,600 youth improved skills needed for academic success.
