12/20: Alfred E. Burr Community School Holiday Party Volunteer Event

October 2, 2015

The United Way Emerging Leader Society capped off an amazing year by assisting the Village for Families & Children as they hosted a Holiday Party at Alfred E. Burr Community School in Hartford.

The evening began with dinner. Jack Soos and James Moher had a glimpse into what activities were in store for the students and therefore shelled out platefuls of salad to guarantee top notch performances. Students rotated between the activities, which started off with a theater performance. Students then rotated to ornament making. Fortunately for the Emerging Leaders, Jen Burns had studied the art of ornament construction while in college and was able to help students, parents and Rebekah Castagno, design ornaments to be put on their Christmas trees. Erik St. Pierre was in charge of games and showed the students how to play pin the Christmas sticker on the reindeer, the original, but less famous version of pin the tail on the donkey.

The event concluded with distributing books to help students build their reading and literacy as well as holiday presents. A special thanks to the Emerging Leaders who volunteered! What a great way to spend the holiday season - giving back to our local community and brightening the future for our youth. To learn more about other opportunities like these, please click here.
