10/21: Jumpstart's National Read for the Record
October 22, 2014
Helping kids read, learn, succeed!
We were proud to participate in the Jumpstart's Read for the Record event on Tuesday, October 21. Thanks to our great partners and caring volunteers for their support in the event and for being part of something bigger! Together, we mobilized more than 90 volunteers to read to 2,000 children in 100 classrooms in Hartford and New Britain. This event is one part of an ongoing effort to build reading skills and academic success for our youth. Also, thanks to the more than 18 workplaces who supplied volunteers and allowing them to take time from their busy schedules to help kids.
Read for the Record is an effort to mobilize millions of children and adults to celebrate literacy by participating in a nationwide shared reading experience. On Tuesday, volunteers entered their assigned elementary classrooms to read Rosemary Wells' Bunny Cakes, a comical children's book about bonding and birthday fun.
